The Double Life of Veronique - Blu-Ray - Region A

I'm not going to pretend I know a lot about Kieslowski. About 20 or so years ago I saw "A Short film about Love" and I was blown away, I thought it was brilliant. I then followed it up the "Killing" and wasn't that impressed, and it kind of ended there.

I bought this out of a desire to have something a bit different, and also from memories of "Love". I was not dissapointed.

This is a brilliant film and so metaphysical its not true. So much is implied and not explained, displayed but not revealed. At time it is an overload of information, yet only a small part of it is actually relevant to the central story.

I am still reeling from ending, the film finished and all I thought about for the next 24 hours was "that" ending. Its a film that requires a second viewing, if only to discover things you have missed the first time around.

And for that reason you cannot get better than that really, a film that uncovers more on repeat viewings. The only point I would pull it up on, as a UK viewer, is the distinction between the Polish and French locations (and language) is difficult to seperate. In fact had I not read about the film afterwards, I would never of know half takes place in Poland and in polish, the other half France/French

Another top edition from Criterion.
